Odder Højskole’s Values

Odder Højskole is a general, Grundtvigian folk high school. We are a school for life and a place of joy. With a solid foundation in our own and the folk high school movement’s history, we seek to engage with, inhabit, and challenge the world of our time.

We value curiosity, participation, and democratic education, and we aim to open the world to our students. We regard diversity among students and staff as a strength in our community and as the very basis for our collective creation.

We put care into our teaching, our food, aesthetics, and the interaction between students and staff. With mutual trust, we create room to make mistakes. This gives us all the security to be who we are.

GOALS

Goals for the students’ outcomes from their stay

We want to provide students with competencies in knowledge, skills, and attitudes, and promote personal development as part of a human maturation process.

Through encounters with many different people, students will develop new perspectives on life and thereby experience that the world is bigger than they thought.

Students should gain concrete tools to organize their lives and clarify their future dreams. We focus on the ability to establish and participate in networks.

Students will gain influence and responsibility and be better equipped to participate in a democracy..

A MESSAGE FROM THE HEADMASTER

You will gain multiple worlds

Life can take you in many directions. We surround ourselves with people who have been captivated by life and surprised by what it can offer. At Odder Folk High School, you get to sense and understand the worlds your life can hold.

You will be told to choose. That you must take control of your existence and choose your path. But at Odder Højskole, we believe life is bigger than that. We are all living examples that life has much more to offer than we can imagine ourselves. There are multiple worlds when you find yourself in community.

Your days will be filled with learning. Here you will meet handpicked experts in their fields. We offer more than eighty subjects for you to choose from, so you can find out whether film, winter bathing, band, gaming, or drawing is your thing. The schedule is set, but the content is created along the way. Odder Højskole is a free school — free of grades but full of perspectives and opinions.

At Odder Højskole, we welcome many nationalities, so both in teaching and in your life at school, you will acquire a language that opens even more worlds.

We want you to feel at home. The school is over 130 years old, and the old main building still lies at the heart of the school, surrounded by extensions from different eras. We have no single political or religious direction, and throughout the years we have delivered teaching of high academic quality. So we know it works.

Your stay at Odder Højskole will give you:

  • Confidence and skills.
  • Knowledge and attitudes.
  • Inspiration — to live life.

We look forward to see you!

Ingeborg Svennevig
Headmaster.
