Liking art and architecture isn’t something you’re born with — it’s something anyone can learn.
Many people feel they have to understand art, but really, art is something to experience first and foremost. The same goes for architecture. It surrounds us all the time, but it takes practice to understand its grammar, its language, and its many expressions.
Art and architecture are always evolving alongside how we see ourselves and the world around us. For example, we’ll explore some of the ideas and worldviews behind Modernism — a period that especially transformed and defined what we now consider important and aesthetically beautiful.
Experience Art and Architecture live
We’ll get out and experience art live at museums and galleries, trying to put into words what the art does to us in the moment, standing right in front of it. We’ll also explore architecture — the good, the bad, and everything in between.
On top of that, we’ll try some small drawing and painting exercises, where you’ll feel the resistance of the materials just like artists do every day, and gain a sense of thinking like an architect.In short, we’ll approach these concepts from as many angles as possible. This course is a perfect complement to more hands-on subjects like Drawing or Painting.
