In the theme week, Horror, you’ll spend an entire week diving deep into the genre’s boundary-pushing, blood-soaked universe.
We hunt down the feeling of fear – and then stage it ourselves on film. By exploring some of the scariest examples the genre has to offer, we’ll investigate what actually makes something frightening, and what horror really deals with beneath the fake blood and screaming.
Drawing on Freud’s concept of “Das Unheimliche” – the uncanny – we discover that true horror doesn’t necessarily require monsters or supernatural forces. Sometimes, the most chilling moments arise when the familiar suddenly becomes… unfamiliar.
Horror in your hand
In this course, we search for eerie, unsettling stories – and at the same time, we simplify the technical side compared to our regular Film Production course. Using smartphones to shoot, we explore how handheld filming adds intimacy, immediacy, and mystery to horror – just like in one of the genre’s cult classics, The Blair Witch Project (1999).
In addition to Horror, you can choose from a wide range of other Film and TV Production subjects, including TV Series and Film History.
