Music Production

music production at Odder Højskole

In Music Production, you create your very own music! You work with composition and record your own tracks from scratch, producing them to get just the right sound. You’ll learn how to make beats and grooves, sample and mix — in short, everything it takes to make a cool track. Pop, rock, hip-hop, trap, or EDM — you decide. The only requirement is that you create something awesome — something you care about!

The teaching takes place in the school’s own electronic studio on Apple Macs using Logic Pro. You can also bring your own computer and DAW (Digital Audio Workstation). It’s not important whether you can play instruments, as the computer is your main instrument in music production.

We work on smaller exercises and larger projects, either on your own or in small producer teams, and finish by releasing a mini-album with the projects we’ve made.

Elements in music production

Introduction: We dive right in by making beats in Logic, doing smaller exercises and recordings.

Form and Arrangement: How do you build the perfect track?

Sample & Remix: Create your own sound and put your stamp on other people’s music.

Mix & Produce: We work with effects, compressors, EQ, automation — mixing and mastering.

Songwriting and Composition: If you’re a singer/songwriter and prefer acoustic styles, that’s totally fine! You can write and compose on acoustic instruments and record it in the studio.

Field Trip: We visit a professional recording studio, where we listen in on current productions, and you get a chance to test your own track in the control room.

Production: You can collaborate with students from Film and TV Production on composing and producing film music and music videos.

Musical Community: In Music Production, you meet musicians and producers with different levels of experience and skills. You don’t have to do everything yourself — you can always get help and inspiration to make beats, write lyrics, record rap or vocals. Together, we create the music we love.
