In the subject Sound, you’ll discover how voice, background noises, and music can be combined to bring stories to life. It’s about creating an atmosphere where sound supports your storytelling and creates a sense of presence that makes listeners stop and truly listen. Through hands-on exercises, you’ll learn how to record, edit, and compose sound — all with the goal of making your stories engaging and unforgettable.

A key part of audio storytelling is understanding how certain sounds become recognizable and evoke instant associations. Think of the sound of church bells — they may instantly remind us of a specific time of day. Or the sound of a car engine, which might conjure images of a road trip or a quick getaway.

In Sound, you’ll learn to use these recognizable sounds consciously — to evoke emotions, place your story in a specific context, or give listeners a flash of recognition that deepens their connection to your narrative.

Sound design & storytelling

You’ll also be introduced to creative ways of using sound in storytelling. This course challenges you to go beyond traditional narrative forms and experiment with sound design to create completely new listening experiences — from podcasts to experimental audio projects.

You’ll learn how sound can shape our perception of time, space, and characters, giving you the freedom to create unique storytelling universes with your own voice at the center.
