TV-SERIEs at
Odder Højskole
In this course, we dive deep into one of the most popular – and increasingly experimental – genres of visual storytelling: the TV series. Unlike traditional films, TV series allow creators to tell long-form stories, offering rich opportunities for character development and world-building. But with that also come high demands on narrative structure and visual style, which must hold the audience’s attention over time.
We study groundbreaking shows like Twin Peaks, The Kingdom, The Wire, and Breaking Bad, and explore newer masterpieces such as Adolescence, Severance, and The White Lotus.
TV-SerieS: Commercial and Boundary Breaking
We also take a historical and theoretical approach to the genre. You’ll learn about the radical transformation of the TV medium itself – especially in the U.S., where it has evolved from low-status entertainment to high-end, cinematic storytelling.
With the rise of streaming platforms and changing distribution models, we ask important questions:
– How do these shifts affect the kinds of stories that get told?
– What role has the TV series played in shaping public conversations around religion, sexuality, and politics?
This course is ideal if you want to explore the intersection of culture, storytelling, and media – and if you’re interested in developing your own creative skills in Film Production or Storytelling.
